KFRC Getting Younger On Friday

Brad Kava blogged this afternoon that newly arrived Infinity market manager Doug Harvill has made his second big move of the week: KFRC New Logo 2005on Friday (September 2) at noon, KFRC/99.7 will leave behind its 1960s rock'n'roll hits — what us geezers call "Oldies" — for a more Seventies-centric sound.

"One of These Nights" by the Eagles is expected as the first song to launch the revamped KFRC, leading off a new playlist of what Kava says "KFRC would have played in 1975, with a list that includes Fleetwood Mac, the Commodores, Elton John, Billy Joel, and also ventures back to the Beatles and Marvin Gaye, and forward to Huey Lewis, Eurythmics and Cyndi Lauper."

"That's right in the center of the audience," Kava quotes Harvill. "If you are 45 today, you were born in 1960 and you were 15 in 1975. That's the age when kids are typically getting into music."

On-air survivors of the change at KFRC will be morning duo Dean Goss and Cammy Blackstone, and midday tonsil Sue Hall. New voices will be brought in for afternoons and evenings.

The station had cut loose program director Bob Harlow on August 22. Harlow had been largely responsible for returning KFRC to a more traditional "Drake" Oldies sound.

First they removed KABL from the bay area and we lost a very good radio station. Now, we lost another good 'Oldie" radio station and replaced with something stupid called "movin". I would like to see this new format "movin" out of here and return to us the oldie format. There are currently no oldie station in the bay area.

Why would you change the great music played on KFRC to the junk you're playing now? KFRC has been programmed on my radio for years but I'll be using that button for another station now. It's such a disappointment.

Ditto to all the commentors! I hate the NEW music and will not be listening to KFRC and I have been listening since the 60'S!!

The new format really stinks. I guess that's why they don't announce the changes; they hope you'll blindly keep listening. I've switched to 104.7.

Add me to the Anonymous Disappointed. This is the second Bay Area station to change its format for the worst. KFRC is now off my radio dial. What a shame to ruin a good station without letting listeners know. That's real customer care!

MOVING ON IS A BAD MOVE -
will not be listening to this station anymore!!!!

Want to know where to find the old DJS and the old format - are you MOVED to tell us that????

Yep, I'm with the group. Bad move on the radio's part. And now we're the ones who are moving....to another station. I have two questions: Did the DJs know in advance? Did you not value us, your loyal listeners, at all or consider how we would react?

Sunday was a bad day for me and many in the Bay Area. The niners lost, the Giants lost and most importantly, long time KFRC listeners lost...their music and beloved dj companions. JoJo, Katie, Cammy & Dean and Paula Kelly and their music mix of the last month was fantastic! I thought that the management finally understood what listeners want. Changes of the last two years seemed acts of despiration and now the final nail is in KFRC's coffin.
I with all the others will be movin on to 95.7, KOIT & the Bone.
My KFRC since the 60's is just a great memory, no more 99.7 for me.

Listening to Cammy & Dean was as ritual as my morning coffee. Could not start the day without it. This change is definitely not for the better. I've scanned the radio for a replacement but could not find one. Morning drive to work will never be the same for me. I'll keep the radio shut before I listen to this new whatever it is.

I think that whoever is responsible for this change to moooooovin, should go to the doctor and have his navel removed and replaced with a plexiglass window, so when they get their head up their petutie they can see where they are going! I'm done with Infinity and CBS since it's obvious they could care less about the listeners that have kept them in business for god knows how many years! Here is hopeing that they go belly up!

They are not playing music of the 70's...hip hop was not around then! I have turned it on 4 different times since noon Friday, and have heard hip hop within 5 minutes each time. I don't want to hear "Promiscuous Boy" and others of that type.

What are you people thinking playing young peoples music on our station? There are plenty of their stations in the Bay Area. Dr. Don will not be happy when he finds out about this change. I guess us long term Bay Area listeners will have to wait for KYA to return to the air waves.

Since 1989 when I moved to to the Bay Area KFRC has been my radio station. The new format does not make me feel good.It feels like nails running down a blackboard.
I used to play it at work and people would always ask me what atation are you listening to.Sat. when I turned on the radio I was shocked but kept it on for a while just to see .No less than 7 people asked me to to turn it off.I have and it will remain so .I hope Cammie and Dean and Sue are going to find a place on my radio soon.
They are real talents.
Do we really need another station playing to the under 30 crowd.
Do you not know the buying power of the Baby Boomers.

I absolutely HATE the new KFRC format. I came back from vacation only to find Cammie and Dean gone from the airwaves - bring them back!! I could even stomach listening to the "music" that's playing as long as I get to hear my morning DJ's. I bet they didn't even get a chance to say so long to all their fans - KFRC management sucks!

I agree with everyone else's comments. I was shocked & amazed the first morning I turned on the radio to listen to Cammie & Dean to find that they were gone. I will no longer be listening to KFRC at all. I have switched to listening to 95.7 the majority of the time. I think what you did to Cammie & Dean and Sue Hall is deplorable and underhanded.

I know I am a late poster, but the other day I switched to KFRC from my normal KRTY and I thought..."what is this $*!#?" I thought maybe my radio was of kilter or something, until my boyfriend asked me if I had heard the new format at KFRC, then I realized it was sadly true, KFRC is dead. I am another who will use the button reserved for KFRC for another station!!

I agree with the majority of those making the comments . Bring back the old KFRC PLEASE !!! There are no other oldies stations. You had a corner on the market. I can't even hear Cammie and Dean, Mark Nieto or Sue Hall over the "din" of the "new" music !!! I also thought that my radio was broken until I saw the silly shaking butts on the TV.

I join all the others in expressing great disappointment and distress over KFRC's new format... is there any way we can reach the old DJs and tell them how much we miss them?? It wasn't just the music that was great, it was the spirit of the station and the DJs.

KFRC was my favorite station on the radio. This new format they have is really awful: I don't enjoy the music at all. I end up checking up on the station, occasionally, to see if they play anything good, and they never do. So, now, I listen to CDs when I'm driving in my car. The Bay Area needs another Oldies station like the old, good KFRC!

I was a long time loyal listener of the old KFRC. Great, great music. I cannot stand this new format. AT ALL. I occasionally turn on the station to see if they even play one decent song, and they never have. I am now listening to CDs in my car, as there is no good Oldies station in the Bay Area. PLEASE, all other stations take note: an Oldies Station in the Bay Area is BADLY needed!!!

A double thumbs down and middle fingers for "movin". What a joke!
99.7 is off my presets. Just recently found 95.7 MAX which is
nice compromise to KFRCs previous format.

FYI..In all this time, I have yet to hear a single REAL 70s song on this horrible "Movin'" station. It sounds like 99% of the other junky stations that play garbage that could never be considered music by anyone with taste. One would have to have a tin ear to listen to this repetitive, non-feeling, non-meaningful, BORING noise!
